The full initiative is presented below: The initiative is a quick read. The links on the next line cover some key elements individually:
“Friendship in Action” Initiative Friendship Ventures (FV) has undertaken an initiative to increase public awareness and support for our agency through a grassroots effort called, “Friendship in Action”. There are two parts to the initiative: 1. The first part starts with a “point of entry” event, which in our case is the “Friendship in Action” tour…this 60 minute presentation takes the basic facts about FV and combines it with an “emotional story” that we think will inspire and move people to action. We are trying to reach both the head (the facts) and the heart (the emotion) of each person who hears our story. We have found this to be a very successful, yet non-threatening way to introduce people to FV. 2. The second part of the initiative is a free, one hour fund raising breakfast or lunch event. Everyone who has attended a tour and/or expressed an interest in getting more involved with FV is asked to serve as a table host for this event. The event is guaranteed to only last 60 minutes; we aren’t disguising the fact that we will be asking for money to support FV but there is no minimum and no maximum (which means a person can attend and not give anything). However, we believe we will be able to share our story in such a compelling way that people will be inspired to help in some way. For some individuals this event is how they are introduced to Friendship Ventures. The
only way this initiative will be successful is if we have a large number of
people actively involved in the process of inviting people to hear our story
during a tour and at one of the events.
FRIENDSHIP IN ACTION INVITATION –KEY POINTS Everyone being invited to the events must be told the following: 1. Tell the person how you are involved with Friendship Ventures and that this organization does a lot to improve the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities. 2. The “Friendship in Action” event is an initiative designed to increase awareness and support for Friendship Ventures (and Camp Friendship, Camp New Hope and Eden Wood Center programs) 3. It is free to all who attend. 4. It will only last one hour (guarantee to be in and out in 60 minutes). 5. Most of the event is informational with a few minutes of opportunity for givers at the end. But there is no minimum or maximum amount to give which means that you could attend and not give anything. 6. Ask the person to “attend” as a favor to you, but do not “give” as a favor to you. If the person gives, we want the person to give because he/she believes that Friendship Ventures is worthy of their support. |
