We all invite friends over to share in something we enjoy like a ballgame, a card game or when we think we've met someone they might also enjoy meeting.

Feel free to be just as casual about it when you invite someone to an FIA event.

Just be honest and speak from the heart, saying something like this:

  1. "A parent of a person with a developmental disability is going to be a guest speaker at a breakfast with a lot of others with the same interests; would you like to ride with us......"
  2. "We know some people involved with Friendship Ventures that we think you might enjoy meeting."
  3. "Some of our friends at Friendship Ventures invited us to a luncheon and we hoped you could join us at our table."
  4. "Remember last year when you came with us to hear the speaker at the FIA Luncheon?  Can you think of any friends who would enjoy coming along this year?"

There's no reason to be nervous about it:

bulletThe worst thing that could happen is they may say "can't make it, maybe another time."

Some other methods people use:

bulletSend out a few quick e-mail invitations
bulletJot a personal invitation notes on a few save the date cards as you think of people who might enjoy hearing the guest speaker
