Creative Options Respite Care
Friendship Ventures offers respite weekends year-round for children, teenagers and adults with special needs. While participants are relaxing and having fun, their families and care providers may enjoy a break from the daily demands of caring for a person with special needs. Friendship Ventures' trained and caring staff makes this a safe "home away from home" experience that parents and other care providers can trust.
Who Can Participate? Children and adults with developmental disabilities, autism,and/or physical limitations, multiple disabilities, special medical conditions, Down, Williams, Asperger, and others syndromes are eligible to participate in Creative Options Respite Care weekends. All ages are accepted. Many sessions are open to siblings and friends without disabilities.
Locations & Availability Respite weekends are offered throughout the year at Camp Friendship in Annandale, Minnesota, and Eden Wood Center in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Programs typically begin Friday evening and end late Sunday afternoon. Participants may stay for all or part of a weekend. A variety of activities are available during their stay.
Recreational activities vary by season and location: biking · boating, campfire sing-alongs · canoeing, crafts · cross country skiing · dancing · fishing · hayrides · hiking · ice fishing · ice skating · paddleboat rides · sledding · snowmobiling · snowshoeing · swimming.
Off-site excursions are also offered. They may include a visit to a local zoo or museum, roller-skating, bowling, going out to dinner and a movie, or playing miniature golf. Recreational activities and trips vary from weekend to weekend.
Please ask for additional information at check-in. Fees vary depending upon the level of care and supervision required and length of stay. Scholarships are available for those with limited financial resources.
