Volunteering and Youth Development & Leadership Programs

If you are passionate and motivated to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve, Camps of Courage and Friendship has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities; whether it be programming with campers or supporting our leadership team, each volunteer plays a vital role in creating a safe space for our campers during our year round respite and seasonal programs.

Every year hundreds of volunteers discover how rewarding it is to live in community with other volunteers and share opportunities and friendship with our participants and their families. Others come and conduct various tasks both residentially and non-residentially.

The most important ‘got-to-have’ for volunteers is passion for the work we do and drive to make it happen.

Other guidelines:
  • Applications can be submitted by those 14 years and older
  • Personal references are required
  • Interviews are required

Youth Development & Leadership Programs

Camps of Courage & Friendship host two Youth Development & Leadership Volunteer programs for young people typically aged 14 - 18: Leaders in Training (LIT) program and the Cabin Assistant (CA).

The LIT program operates during the Summer Camp Program (June - Aug) at Camp Friendship and is typically populated by 14-16 year olds.
The CA program operates at all five locations during the summer months and is typically populated by 16 - 21 year olds.

The CA program also operates year-round with the respite programs at three of our locations: Maple Lake, Eden Prairie and Annandale. Volunteers arrive on Friday and depart Sunday. During this program the volunteers will reside in a cabin group with Counselors and Campers assisting with various aspects of programming.
